COCO’S KITCHEN
I often find there are certain nooks in your home that pose a decorating dilemma. Before my sister-in-law welcomed her daughter, Coco, into the world, that tricky space in her house was a landing area off her basement stairs, near the kitchen. During the pandemic, I transformed that space into a bar, but with the arrival of Coco, a lively and adorable little girl, a bar seemed impractical. Living in a century-old house in Denver, extra space is a precious commodity, especially for creating personalized play areas for kids.

Converting this landing into a delightful space for my niece presented a bit of a challenge – enter the concept of "Coco’s Kitchen," a vibrant play kitchen. My sister-in-law had her heart set on a lively wallpaper for the space, and once it arrived, the creative reins were handed over to me. The chosen wallpaper: a peel-and-stick leopard print from Target. Now, it's worth noting that despite my experience in hanging wallpapers, I encountered an unprecedented challenge with this particular one – it simply refused to stay in place. Every fall meant more damage to the wallpaper, making it impossible to cover the entire wall as planned.
Painting begins
After careful consideration, I opted to paint the entire space in a shade of green that matched the wallpaper (given my sister-in-law's fondness for green, more green-themed projects are in the pipeline) and framed the remaining wallpaper with decorative wood paneling from Home Depot. This gave the wallpaper a chic 'framed' appearance.
